Drywall Repair and Installation
3 Tips to Reduce Drywall Ceiling And Wall Damage
Drywall ceiling and wall damage from a water heater, washing machine or door knob holes are common in Houston.
Sheetrock on the walls take a beating because it’s a widely used material throughout your home.
At some point homeowners will need a repair or patch for a hole in a wall caused by a door knob, electrical installation, moving furniture… the list goes on.
Below are 3 common problems and simple tips to minimize drywall ceiling and wall damage.
Ceiling Drywall Repair Caused by Water Heaters in the Attic
If you live in Houston, ceiling leaks are a common problem due to water heaters being installed in the attic. A quick routine check of your water heater pan to inspect for standing water can save you an unexpected repair cost.
Most homeowners either don’t have a drain pan underneath to catch the overflow, it’s deteriorated or clogged.
Tip: Install a $20 water heater aluminum pan with a drain line connection to move any water overflow out of the area. This small investment alone, will save you thousands in repairs.
Having a drain pan will contain small leaks and can give you a warning that there is a problem before more damage is caused.
Once a drain pan fills up it will be a pool of water that goes somewhere, hence your ceiling!

Ceiling Drywall Repair Caused by 2nd Floor Washing Machine Installation
Another disaster waiting to happen are washing machines installed on the second floor without a drain pan.
Washing machines can dump gallons of water onto your floor from a busted hose fast.
Side Note: If your laundry room is on the first floor near an adjoining area that has carpet, hardwood or laminate flooring, taking preventative measurements is highly recommended.
Tip: Replace rubber hoses with $30 steel braided no burst washing machines hoses that come with a warranty. In addition to a metal pan with a hole cut out, installed under the washing machine.
Make sure it’s connected to a floor drain or pipe to help channel the water here if a hose breaks.

Drywall Repair Caused By Wall Damage
The walls take a beating in a house from scratches caused by placing sofas and chairs too close to the wall. Moving heavy furniture, or from using the wrong type of hardware when hanging heavy objects on the wall, causing them to fall or create a hole.
Door knobs constantly hitting the same spot are a common cause for holes in a wall.
Tip: A $3 hinge doorstop is a lot cheaper than the minimum labor charge to repair the hole. Hinge doorstops are preferable because they don’t stick out from your baseboards, which usually gets ripped off from children and pets.
Also you there’s no damage to your baseboards.
Tip: Place furniture and objects 6-12 inches from the walls. When moving, wrap large pieces of furniture in a thick blanket to prevent scratching the walls and doorways.
